Myself and Dad having Lunch at Uni (mum taking the photo!)So, I am still terrible at updating this thing - nothing has changed yet! In fact, the busy-ness has been so extreme that I have had this window open with busy, busy, busy written at the top of it for at least a few days now. But this is how i like it, and i would not change this experience for the world or trade to be anywhere else but here - here is perfect for now.
The show that I am doing at Chamber as ASM has opened now, and is going to run for the next two weeks (after tech and an 8 show week last week!). This is definitely the longest run of a show i have ever done, but i am loving it. I have got some very good feedback from the work that I have done, and I have to admit my 'scrubs' costume is actually very comfy, although very white and a little see-through! I was terrified initially of the audience, but things have turned into normal now and i don't mind the visable scene changes as much as i thought i would. It will be strange going back to it tonight after two days off, but I am sure it will all go fine *touch wood!* I think i am destined to become a Stage Manager... this could be a good or bad thing, and i still am very interested in Applied Performance, but i can see stage management being a big part of my life onwards into the future.
Talking about Stage Management, I have a summer internship! This is going to be in Central Virginia and I will be working on a family production of Alice in Wonderland which i am very excited about! The place is supposed to be absolutely beautiful too, right in the mountains near a lake, so i am very excited about not living in the city for the summer. I am hoping that I will meet lots of lovely people and be able to visit a completely different part of America - i am sure it will be wonderful, and i am definitely not ready to leave America yet, so this is really good for me.
I plan to have left America at the end of July/beginning of August - i will then be heading to Spain for a week, then home to the UK for our joint 21st's in Canterbury and for Over The Wall and to earn some money, which will be very much needed after this year!!
My parents have also been to visit really recently. They came for two weeks and they LOVED Milwaukee, just like I do, which makes me very happy. We went out to eat in lots of nice places and chilled out together and they did lots of exciting activities although i couldn't join them on many of their adventures due to classes and being in tech. It was lovely to see them and spend some time with them, although i had to say goodbye to my social life for a little while!! Now they have been stranded in Canada by the Icelandic Volcano and i believe they have had to take a week off work - what a fantastic opportunity for them to see more of the world! I wish i could join them, but that is impossible with my crazy schedule, and I liked it here. There are always moments when you are sitting somewhere and you think 'oh my goodness, i'm in America, how did i get here???' - it is lovely to feel that way. Next time i will see my brother and sister and parents is in Spain in August, so that will be nice - it will have been 8 months not seeing my siblings, which is quite a long time!
I have lists of things to do before I leave Milwaukee. I want to go to the Art Museum, have frozen custard, see Chicago, see Madison, go to the Safehouse again, go and see the baseball, go on a brewery tour etc! I hope i will be able to fit it all in - i really don't want to leave here!
Classes are still going well - we are doing Boal in Participatory and i am not sure that i like him, but I have told myself i will not pass judgement until after this semester is over! The emotional content of this class has made it very intense recently, and it is rare a session goes by without someone crying, which is horrible because this class used to be so fun! My Directing Scene is going okay, I have now blocked all of it! I love my actresses, they are awesome, but i don't think i am cut out to be a director - i have the ideas, i'm just not that good at conveying them on stage! But you never know, i do enjoy it, so it might be nice to continue as a hobby now and then! The Penelope Project is also going well - we went to visit Luther Manor recently for a long term care training session, which was eye opening and i learnt SO much! I wish i was here longer so i could continue on the project. Improv comedy, as normal, is hell, but there are some positives - due to Sweetest Swing i have gotten out of doing the evening show for the class, which is fantastic. We have an afternoon show today, without an audience i think - like a dress rehearsal, so that should be interesting!
Anyway, i have to go now, i have got to get ready for my rehearsal and class and show tonight!
